The Clorox Company Plant Engineering Manager in Amherst, Virginia


The Plant Engineering Manager -- B (PEM-B) leads engineering and technical teams as assigned in mid-sized / mid complexity manufacturing location. This includes day to day leadership of Engineering and Quality groups and their associated budgets. This position also provides ongoing manufacturing support to drive favorable plant operational performances. The PEM-B is responsible for capital and expense budget management. The PEM-B has stewardship for the facility and infrastructure. The PEM-B is responsible to critically review the design and implementation of all capital and manufacturing improvement projects. Participates on the Plant Leadership Team and leverages resources to enable success across all areas of the facility

This is a two year assignment, with required relocation thereafter, working in a participative team based environment, using World Class Operations processes and principles.

This position will require travel approximately 10% of the time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of Technical Work Groups

  • Mentoring & personnel development

  • Administrative oversite of technical group

  • Capital Project Process Ownership

  • Review the design and implementation of all capital and manufacturing improvement projects including individual scope, schedule, cost, and early management requirements

  • Oversee construction and contractor activities on a day to day basis all safety requirements

  • Establish and hold projects to projected budgets

  • Manufacturing Optimization & Support

  • Includes day to day operational support

  • Stewardship for Facility Infrastructure

  • Includes governing permits and long term master site planning

  • Includes site security and fire protection

  • fixed asset management of facility & property infrastructure

  • Duties as Assigned by Plant Manager

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution

  • 8 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role

  • 2 years' experience in a leadership role

  • Position will require the candidate to be in manufacturing environment with rotating equipment, elevated surfaces, temperature variations etc.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering from an accredited institution

  • Able to coach & develop others as part of their daily work

  • Able to influence and accomplish work through others

  • Exceptional written & verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with individuals across different levels and departmental functions

  • Experience with annual maintenance, capital project budgets, and site facilities managementExperience with Health, Safety, and Environmental Systems

  • World Class Operations/Lean Manufacturing Tools
