Your role at Clorox:

The role of the Accountant is to ensure that the accuracy of the information provided in the financial statements is of the highest level, to provide assistance in the preparation of timely financial statements, and generally assist in financial systems support for the function. Ensure all financial controls are functioning effectively.

In this role, you will:

General Ledger

  • Monitor the integrity of financial transactions: Run month end reports to ensure all relevant transactions have been posted through to the GL, and any unposted batches are corrected in a timely manner.

  • Ensure all balance sheet clearing accounts are zero at month end, and any major mis postings are tracked backed to the source module and corrected. Control monthly standing journal listing.

  • Preparation of monthly standing and miscellaneous journals and input into GL. Ensure all journal support is filed for future reference.

  • Reconciliation of all general ledger accounts on a monthly basis, ensuring any discrepancies are investigated and corrections made, if required, in a timely manner and appropriate supporting documentation is provided.

  • Ensure the four major GL accounts (Bank, Debtors, Creditors, and Stock) have been reconciled and agree to the sub-module before the final run of Company accounts.

  • Agree intercompany confirmations with other Clorox entities by required deadlines. All intercompany entries completed as required.

  • Provide assistance and support with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in local and Corporate systems (e.g. HFM) ensuring all deadlines are met as per timetables.

  • Glad joint venture reporting assistance with quarterly and annual Glad joint venture reporting (actual and forecasting) requirements.

  • Provide assistance as required by the ANZ office or US Head office.

Tax

  • Preparation of indirect tax returns (FBT/ GST/ PAYE/ NRWT), corporate tax and transfer pricing reporting for review by Assistant Manager - Finance.

  • Reconcile IRD statement of accounts for FBT/GST/PAYE/NRWT taxes, to ensure all payments have been allocated to correct periods and tax types.

  • Ensure Clorox is in compliance with local tax laws and regulations.

Trade Spend\Wall Street accruals

  • Reconciling major trade spend accounts along with Wall Street (Advertising & Sales Promotional spend). Performing accruals as required on a monthly basis, and highlighting any issues on a monthly basis with management.

Fixed Asset Management and reporting for New Zealand

  • Completion of capital expenditure request form, on the receipt of a capital expenditure proposal form. Ensure the appropriate authority levels (as per the authority schedule) have approved the capital expenditure before any expenditure has commenced. Advise the project owner once approval has been granted, along with the Capex number to code all relevant invoices to. Provide monthly update on project spend against the approval amount to the project manager. Ensure all invoices have been allocated against the correct project by working with the project manager to review copies of all invoices before the project is capitalised. Ensure completed fixed asset projects are capitalised in the fixed asset registers the month following completion.

  • Complete the input form to enter new assets into the fixed asset registers and apply the appropriate accounting rates as per corporate policy and tax depreciation rates as per local tax authority. Complete transfer from completed projects from WIP to fixed assets.

  • Ensure all new assets have an appropriate identification number for tracking, and any movement of assets between departments is subsequently recorded.

  • Ensure all paper work is completed for asset disposals with appropriate sign-off as per company fixed asset policy and update fixed asset registers.

  • Run monthly depreciation for accounting and tax. Post accounting depreciation entry.

  • Run fixed asset and capital expenditure reports and file.

  • Each quarter perform a cycle count test based on a sample of assets.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that documentation pertaining to all accounting procedures and controls associated with General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Fixed Assets are accurate and updated.

  • Assist with external audit including prep work, liaise with auditors during audit (online via portal and on site) and respond to follow up queries in timely manner.

  • Sarbanes (SOX) quarterly certifications and annual self testing in WDesk.

  • Assist with any other internal control requirements/reporting.

  • Assist with stocktakes at third party warehouse as required.

What we look for:

Years and Type of Experience:

  • 5+ years accounting experience in financial accounting role.

  • ERP systems experience. (NetSuite preferred)

  • Exposure to foreign currency reporting.

Skills and Abilities

  • Exposure to overseas reporting and a high level of competence in Excel spread sheeting.

  • Attention to detail should be readily apparent and supported by strong organisational skills with the desire to be an effective communicator and team player.

Education Level/Degree:

  • Degree in Accounting (that meets ACA or higher membership requirements of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand).
