Your role at Clorox:

The Business Unit Leader (BUL) must possess the ability to lead and manage all aspects of their assigned shift and department in a fast paced manufacturing environment.. This is an 8-hour shift position with the potential to transition to a 12-hour schedule (2-2-3 shift) based on future business needs. The ideal BUL thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses a multifaceted skillset. They excel at leading and motivating teams, fostering collaboration and empowering individuals to achieve peak performance. Safety is paramount, and the BUL sets the standard by leading by example and instilling a strong safety culture. They are passionate about operational excellence, driving continuous improvement in quality, service delivery, and process efficiency. This involves leveraging data and formal problem-solving techniques to identify and implement impactful changes. A keen eye for cost management is essential. The BUL takes the initiative to develop and lead cost-saving projects and loss reduction efforts. Additionally, they are adept at managing change, championing initiatives, and effectively guiding the team through transitions. Rounding out this impressive skillset is a strong understanding of inventory management best practices. The BUL implements strategies to ensure efficiency and meet production needs. The BUL reports to the department Operations Manager and owns the delivery of their team’s results across all key areas people, safety, quality, housekeeping, efficiency, cost, and innovation.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, Coach and Develop your team to ensure you continuously deliver the plant balanced scorecard metrics while meeting individual’s career interests

  • You will own the development plan for crew leads of your shift and area as well as ensuring they have leader standard work and are completing it to standard

  • The professional in this role will provide day-to-day leadership for manufacturing operations ensuring that safety, quality, housekeeping, production, cost, and innovation goals are met

  • Provide training and develop necessary capability across team to ensure business needs are met

  • Support and reinforce the implementation of Continuous Improvement Process (TRACC & Global Manufacturing Excellence) to deliver measurable and sustainable improvements

  • Excel in leading teams and individuals through problem solving, prioritizing issues and opportunities

  • Manage Equipment Related opportunities through data management system

  • Manage Personnel Time keeping system and payroll for direct reports

  • Ensure adequate Early Management & Ops Readiness is applied to all major projects, including material changes and new product introductions to enable vertical start-ups

  • Support Rewards and Recognition programs

  • GEMBA walks on a daily basis to foster plant leadership

  • Drive technical improvements and maintenance upgrades

  • Maintains quality standards through support of QIR and QN processes

  • Ensures 5S and housekeeping standards are sustained

  • Ensures operator PMs are completed and TECO’ed to standard

  • Assists Maintenance in planning and prioritizing maintenance work

  • Lead loss discussion of business unit area in Tier meetings

  • Manage changeover, startup, and shutdown processes to standards

  • Supports development of production schedule and achievement of schedule adherence

  • Develop and maintains process to document operating task in JIB format, working in association with T&Q

  • Develop and track progress against Losses for assigned business unit

  • Ensure support for both the operations and the operators in getting time to complete training requirements

  • Complete all required training requirements per company expectations

  • Drive skill block system alignment and completion by associates, in junction with the T&Q function

  • Ensure support for both the operations and the operators in getting time to complete training requirements

  • Mentor Associates on Leadership skill requirements and with root cause analysis to problem solving

  • As a member of the plant Leadership team, support the strategic leadership journey map plans

  • Provide support and Leadership direction on annual leadership plan

  • Support all plant celebrations, by participating and assisting activities

  • Drive a plant culture change to better support Manufacturing Flexibility

  • Work with Corporate Engineering, Support Departments, R&D and the plant to develop an equipment and operations platform that allows for greater flexibility

  • Work with Plant Engineering to develop Capital improvement plans

What we look for:

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience

  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience

  • Willingness and ability to work an 8-10 hour afternoon schedule

  • Position will require the candidate to be in manufacturing environment with rotating equipment, elevated surfaces, temperature variations etc.

  • Experience and proficiency with SAP as well as common desktop applications (MS Office)

  • Bachelors’ degree or equivalent job experience required

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

  • Operational technical experience in manufacturing (processing, packaging, maintenance etc.)

  • Team facilitation and consensus building working thru engagement of various levels of the organization

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exposure to World Class Manufacturing, Lean, or 6 Sigma is preferred

  • Exposure to World Class Manufacturing, Lean, or 6 Sigma, TPM is a plus.

Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $86,600 - $161,900

–Zone B: $79,400 - $148,400

–Zone C: $72,100 - $134,900

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
