The Clorox Company Senior Quality Microbiologist in Kennesaw, Georgia
This position will focus on providing microbiological technical expertise to the Product Supply function mainly supporting Cosmetics and other businesses (foods, drugs, medical device, etc.) as needed. This role will be part of the Quality Assurance Team in Kennesaw GA. Responsibilities include establishing/maintaining policies and procedures for new product initiatives (Innovation, Brand Maintenance, Cost Savings, and Supply Assurance) and existing products within Clorox's portfolio. This role will conduct microbiological risk assessments, investigations, laboratory testing, and provide support to our manufacturing operations to ensure conditions are maintained to prevent microbial contamination in our products.

Performs microbial testing and risk assessment of new raw materials for new formulations and project support
Performs onsite testing to verify/validate test methods are practical and can serve the business needs of the plants and our partners
Provides operational support and problem solving at all Clorox locations, drawing on internal and external experts as appropriate, managing improvement plans and activities.
Ensures written practices are in place and robust in our plants, suppliers and contract packers, to assure that stable conditions exist that prevent unacceptable microbiological contamination.
Trains plant & corporate personnel on microbiology basics
Project and Lab Support
Conducts challenge studies including (but not limited to) inoculation, time kill, PET, etc... to ensure formulations are stable and robust
Provides approval for validation of new laboratory equipment in our plants, and for products & processes related to micro stability
Maintains relationship with 3rd party labs and, coordinates microbial testing if necessary
Drive Continuous Improvement
Supports the continuous improvement of the Quality function by identifying and resolving gaps/waste in quality systems, tools, and processes
Identified as the SME for key Quality System Elements & processes to ensure they are effectively managed, maintained and continuously improved
Drives commonality of programs and processes at all manufacturing locations, including co-packers, where applicable
Years and Type of Experience
8 years of experience in Microbiology and Food Safety in CPG industry
Direct experience in cosmetic microbiology
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Cosmetics microbiology
Knowledge and proven abilities in microbiology testing like Soleris rapid screening, inoculated challenge testing, traditional plating, pathogen identification, USP 61/62, and finished product testing
Previous experience with supporting (or designing) plant quality systems, audits, GLP's, SSOP's, risk analysis and spoilage investigations
Maintains laboratory equipment, orders supplies, prepares media, controls inventory and culture library
Ability to function at a high level with minimum supervision and great interpersonal skill to foster and maintain necessary relationships
Travel up to 50%
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience.
Degree in Biology, Microbiology or Food Science
Manufacturing operations experience
FDA, EPA, SQF, ISO9000 regulations
Microbiology for food, OTC, medical device
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively remotely and face to face
Ability to lead meetings and groups when called on
