The Clorox Company Manager, Government Affairs in Oakland, California

Based in Oakland, CA, the Manager of Government Affairs will be responsible for managing and influencing U.S. legislative and regulatory policy issues potentially impacting Clorox products and operations. The individual will work closely with business units to ensure project teams understand current and emerging legislative and regulatory priorities that could impact their business. The manager will also develop and implement strategic initiatives on issues including Transportation, Manufacturing, and Consumer Privacy.

The position is part of the Government Affairs team and will partner closely with various organizations and individuals in the company, including R&D, Global Stewardship, and Legal , as well as relevant external stakeholders to shape policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze state and federal governmental policies impacting Clorox brand and manufacturing operations.

  • Provide clean, concise, and relevant advice on government policy issues and trends as they relate the operation of Clorox.

  • Remain abreast of concerns voiced by companies and other groups with similar interests and form strategic alliances as appropriate. Input to Clorox's strategic planning through participation on key platform teams and discussions with key leaders.

  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with key public policy makers at all levels, including coordinating facility tours and other face-to-face meetings.u

  • Provide Government Affairs assistance to business units and respond to requests for government information from all management levels.

  • Participate in local, state, and national trade associations, coalitions, and other organizations.

  • Input to the Government Affairs department internal communication. This includes quarterly reports, issue reports and client department presentations.

Experience and Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in public affairs, government affairs, community relations, or related field.

  • Strong understanding and experience of the state and federal legislative process.

  • Proven ability to successfully develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree, ideally with a focus in Government, Journalism or Communications, or equivalent work experience.

  • Travel as necessary (approximately 10-20%). Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, and from a variety of disciplines.

  • Strong networking and engagement skills.

  • Detail-oriented, self-initiating, well-organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
