The Clorox Company Data Engineer V in Pleasanton, California

Analytical, big picture thinker who is driven to enhance and further the mission of the organization by leveraging and delivering technology to internal business and functional stakeholders. Serve as a leader to drive the IT strategy to create value across the organization. Responsible for delivery of approved business outcomes as well as ensuring financial and quality objectives are met through effective management by supporting IT and IT supported functions by designing and coding functional programs and applications as well as and developing key integrations, configurations and reporting analysis to support the achievement of business objectives. Data Engineer V is empowered to lead the organization to focus on implementing both top-level, strategic, innovative solutions, as well as the day-to-day tactics that drive efficiency, effectiveness and value across the Clorox enterprise.

Plays a critical role in creating and analyzing deliverables to provide critical content to enable fact based decision making, facilitation and achieving successful collaboration with the supported stakeholders and have aligned relationships to drive business results and delivery of projects. Works very closely with different stakeholder teams to develop and maintain business process artifacts and aid project discovery as well as delivering the project to support and ensure supportability. Analyzes, designs, and develops best practice business changes through technology solutions.

As a Data Engineer V, you would work with our Data Analytics and Technology Advancement Center (TAC) to make things easier, faster, and more reliable for thousands of employees and customers of Clorox to make data driven decisions. Demonstrated mastery of data analysis techniques and data tools such as SQL, Python, C#/Java, NoSQL, etc. will help create the infrastructure that powers our analytical insight and data science efforts at Clorox. You will work alongside the Senior Data Architect to ensure that the Data Analytics and Data Science mission is being achieved through tool setup, process creation, training, and advocacy.

This role interacts with customers on a regular basis, takes individual responsibility for features (from customer contact to final delivery), works with more senior members on larger efforts, and takes part in continuously improvement.

Key responsibilities:

Engage our People as Business Owners: Develop individual capabilities to promote growth. Key activities include:

  • Works on projects for company priorities within cross functional team.

  • Supports stakeholders to assist with detailed content to achieve the best results for the projects and initiatives.

  • Facilitates meetings with key stakeholders.

  • Identifies and creates opportunities, improvements, key content additions and overall project requirements to expand understanding of a function, business process technology or domain and all required deliverables to ensure successful delivery of the project or initiative.

  • Provide mentorship to team ensuring optimization of designs/solutions, champion standard processes and procedures, and provide troubleshooting for development and test environment issues

Drive the Business: Supports technology tools, systems, capabilities, processes, and financials to enable delivery and drive business results across the enterprise.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in the business, within IT and with our technology partners / vendors.

  • Supports the team as a change agent across stakeholder group by functioning within the defined operating model and providing the required deliverables. Ensure communications both formal and informal are clear and aligned with supported functions and related stakeholders.

  • Supports stakeholder teams to ensure adherence to defined methodologies and that all required documentation and analysis is completed to ensure fact based success

  • Designs and develops methodologies for enterprise.

  • Actively participate, contribute and facilitate stakeholder meetings utilizing candid feedback and being curious on requirements to achieve the highest quality deliverables and ultimate results for supported area.

  • Adapts existing methods and procedures to create possible alternative solutions to moderately complex problems

  • Determines solutions and seeks guidance on complex problems

  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments with guidance

  • Manages key activities to ensure they are completed, validated, and aligned with architectural objectives and requirements and successfully deployed into the production environment.

Technology/Business Planning and Development: Supports execution of technology improvements that drive capacity within the enterprise. Key focus areas include:

  • Manages creations of project charters as the developer, business requirements, design, and recommendation documentation for specific projects to be initiated, planned, and executed

  • Provides input to their management on the strategic direction as it relates to team and project goals.

  • Assist in business requirements creation by participating in interviews, meetings and/or existing system documentation, detailed functional analysis and process flows.

  • Supports requirements, test planning, test scripts, functional requirements, process requirements, critical analysis and documentation to support the delivery of process and systems for the enterprise.

  • Participate and validate content for the test plan development sessions with stakeholder teams and reviews final deliverables for test.Design, develop and write high quality source code to program and complete within deadlines.

  • Perform unit and integration testing and assist others with code reviews.

  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing and train other developers how to complete this work.

  • Troubleshoot and debug applications / configurations of your own design and of others.

  • Evaluate existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features

  • Design and develop technical documents to accurately represent application / configuration design and code.

  • Work closely with the support organization in planning and execution of the knowledge transfer and release management during the delivery phase of projectsWorks with stakeholders to understand requirements, and suggest enhancements including designing and developing process flows and work instructions and all required deliverables and quality documentation.

  • Works with the GSD organization to ensure projects can be successfully transition and supported by operations.

  • Work with service providers and operational teams to ensure scheduled changes take place with little for no impact to the business (and when applicable with proper notification to the business).

  • Provide direction and guidance to staff and clients on "best" approaches, decisions, and quality outcomes.

Build Capability to Drive Growth and Eliminate Waste: Deploys tools, processes and resources to support the enterprise.

  • Share / leverage successful deliverables, work products, processes and best practices across the organization both inside and outside IT.

  • Responsible for compliance with the change management processes

  • Design and develop rapid prototyping using programming and configuration skills according to specification.

  • Work with a continuous improvement mindset to optimize productivity and drive out waste in all that we do at Clorox.

  • Evaluate, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output. Specifically, increase the productivity levels of resources and improve throughput and delivery of projects and work products.

Position requirements

Years and Type of Experience:

  • 10+ years in IT or professional services experience in IT delivery in delivery of large scale IT Analytics projects.

  • BS in Computer Science or Engineering and 10+ years of overall relevant experience in application programming and integration

  • 5+ years of experience in data ingestion and storage systems for big data environment using at least one of the COTS integration tools, like - SnapLogic, webMethods, TIBCO, Talend, Informatica, mulesoft, and/or custom scripting in Python/Java

  • 2+ years of MUST have experience in using Apache Beam / Google Datafow / Apache Spark in creating end-to-end data pipelines

  • 2+ years of data engineering experience with big data environments and writing map-reduce jobs using Java/ Scala or Python.

  • 5+ years of webservice and API integration experience using REST API, JSON, Node.js, and Python

  • Experience in writing HIVE SQL and ANSI SQL based complex queries and data aggregation and transformation

  • Experience with continuous build, deployment, and team development environments, like - Jenkins, Chef, Puppet, JIRA etc.

  • Experience troubleshooting and taking responsibility for small features, from design to user delivery

  • Enthusiasm for the field and professional development/improvement outside the day to day job

  • Evidence of successfully managing diverse project teams (e.g., outsourced, multi-vendor, or geographically distributed).

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with connecting and integrating with at least one of the platform -- Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and/or various Data providers, like -- Facebook or Tweeter API integration Expert level knowledge in at least 2 of these technologies - Relational Databases, Analytical Databases and NoSQL databases

  • Expert knowledge in SQL development

  • Expertise in building data integration and preparation tools using cloud technologies (like Snaplogic, Google Dataflow, Cloud Dataprep, Python etc.)

  • 2-3 years' experience in designing and building medium to large scale data centric applications.

  • Experience in programming in Java, Python, etc.

  • Excellent understanding of software design and programming principles.

Education Level/Degree:

  • BS in Computer Science or Egineering
